Kamala Harris and the Art of Non-Populist Politics

Montag, 04.11.2024, 19:30 – 21:00 Uhr

Since the 2024 Democratic National Convention, Kamala Harris’s campaign is unfolding against the backdrop of a populist surge in American politics.
While one of her campaign slogans, „Were not going back,“ highlights how her campaign sees threats to voting rights and to womens equality under a potential second Trump presidency, Harris has tried to return American politics to an older era of pre-Trump politics.
Professor Dr. Gevas lecture considers how and why Harris has chosen a mostly non-populist path, and the potential costs and benefits of this approach to her campaign.

Dr. Dorit Geva is the Professor of Gender and Politics at the University of Vienna since January 2024. She is a leading expert on transformations in rightwing politics in Europe, including the rise of women in populist radical rightwing parties.
